What Is The Windows Registry?

The majority of file extension errors in Windows are caused by errors related to the Windows Registry.

The Windows Registry is a directory which stores settings and options for Microsoft Windows operating systems. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings.

This system file houses a large collection of details about your computer - where files are stored, where programs are stored, which helper programs (known as DLLs) are shared among your various applications, listings of all your Start-menu shortcuts, and pointers to the programs that load when you click on an icon.

How Do I Fix Registry Problems?

  3) Click "Start", then "Run".
  4) Type "RegEdit" and this should open the manual editing program.
  5) Find the associated registry keys (located in step 2) and delete them from your registry file.
  6) Save the registry file and close RegEdit.
  7) Restart your computer.
  


• Novice Computer User Solution (completely automated):
  1) Download Windows Registry Repair Update Utility.
  2) Install program and click Scan.
  3) Wait approximately 2 minutes while your registry is scanned and repaired.
  3) Restart your computer.
